What stood out to you from Sunday’s message?

Summary

Read 1 Timothy 1:1-11

Paul has sent his young delegate Timothy to Ephesus to sort of some issues of doctrine, worship and behaviour in the church. Of first importance is that Timothy stops the false doctrine and ensures faithful stewardship of the gospel. This is the same responsibility that we have as a church and as Christians: to faithfully hold and teach the gospel so that it is passed on to others and to the next generation.

Discussion Questions

  1. What does it mean that we are entrusted with the gospel? What responsibilities does that entail?
  2. How is wrong doctrine a threat to the church and to individual Christians? What harm can it do?
  3. Why are we drawn to teachings and doctrines that are new and innovative? How can you balance new ideas with old truths?
  4. If we faithfully and successfully steward the gospel in our time (passing it on to the next generation), what in our church and in our family will be the same and what will adapt and change?
  5. Tolerance is the highest ideal of our culture, but Paul says the aim of his charge is love. How can challenging false doctrine an example of love?
