What stood out to you from Sunday’s message?

Summary

Read Acts 1.1-11

The book of Acts starts with the final actions of Jesus. He prepares his apostles with word and Spirit, and commissions them to be his witnesses. It’s easy for us to become comfortable in our Christian life and be distracted from the mission that Jesus gave us. While the obstacles are many, we need to re-commit ourselves and our church to be his faithful witnesses in the places he has sent us.

Discussion Questions

  1. Why are the apostles told to wait for the Holy Spirit? What does this tell us about our efforts to do God’s work without God’s power?

  2. We see that Jesus equips the apostles with both truth (v.3) and the Spirit (vv.4-5). Why do we need both? What are the dangers of one without the other and which do you tend towards?

  3. At different times the apostles seem too focused on earth (v.6) and heaven (vv.10-11). What are some ways that we can do the same? Where should our focus be?

  4. What does it mean to be a witness? What is the biggest obstacle you face in being a witness?

  5. What are you most looking forward to in our series in Acts?
