What stood out to you from Sunday’s message?

Summary

Read Philippians 2:12-30

The reality of Jesus’ humiliation and exaltation are not simply to be believed but imitated and lived out. The salvation that Jesus gives is to be worked into every corner of our lives. In order to do that, Paul urges us to persevere in all things and to follow the examples of godly leaders who can show us how to follow Christ.

Discussion Questions

  1. What does it mean to “work out your own salvation”? Is there an area of your life that you want to see brought into conformity with the gospel?
  2. What are the things that you most frequently complain about? How is a grumbling heart antithetical to the gospel?
  3. What does it look like to “hold fast to the word of life”? How does that make us shine in darkness?
  4. Is perseverance a virtue in our culture or not? How does this affect the way we view our challenges?
  5. What are the characteristics of Timothy and Epaphroditus that are worthy of emulation? Can you think of someone who displays these? Who are you imitating to grow in Christ? How can we honour people like this?
